The Clinton City Council quickly approved three resolutions at their meeting dealing with animal control issues.
With little discussion the council approved the proposal from the Clinton Humane Society with an increase in the subsidy from the current $65,000 a year to $120,000 a year.
The second resolution approved a committee to talk about a new deal with the Humane Society. Ed O’Neil, representing the Humane Society, told the council at a previous meeting he has a proposal that would save the city money and that is the basis for the committee.
A third resolution approved continuing talks with a local veterinarian who has proposed providing the minimum services at a lower cost.
Also during the business meeting the council approved making Finance Director Jessica Kinser the interim city administrator during the search for a new administrator.
The council also formally approve the citizen search committee to lead that process.
During the Committee Of The Whole session the council approved settlements in two separate lawsuits filed against the city.
In one case-Yvonne Fortner had filed suit against the city claiming she was owed overtime for the MTA work on weekends. The case was settled for a payment of $7,500.
Local attorney Drew Chambers assisted the city with the case. He says the plaintiff has signed a release to prevent any further action and this would be a complete resolution
City Attorney Jeff Farwell said the settlement would end EEOC Complaint she had filed and there would be no claims for future unemployment and prevent any potential lawsuit
A second suit involved a lawsuit filed by Hensley Disposal concerning the claim the city had picked up garbage from his customers over a four month period.
Bill Stone, a lawyer from the city’s insurance firm, represented the city in the case. He said the settlement paid Hensley Disposal $11,500. He said at some point we decided we should be talking settlement and this included a stipulation of dismissal of all claims.
The payment will come from the city’s insurance carrier in this case.
