A fire damaged part of the Darling International Plant on Beaver Channel Parkway. The Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to the plant for a possible structure fire and found heavy smoke coming the truck garage building.
The department reported the first attack team entered the building and due to vehicles in the garage and heavy smoke they were unable to attack the fire. Due to safety concerns the team exited the building and attack on the fire was started from the outside. It took about 90 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The fire department stated the damage could in the range of $500,000. There were no injuries reported.
The incident remains under investigation.
The Darling International Plant was formerly operated by National By-Products.
The Clinton Fire Department responded with a ladder truck, 3 engines, an ambulance, the command vehicle and 13 personnel. Mutual aid was called from the Camanche and Fulton Fire Departments
