URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE - NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE QUAD CITIES IA IL - 1011 AM CST THU FEB 21 2013

...WINTER STORM TO ARRIVE BY LATE THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT...

.LOW PRESSURE WILL TRACK OUT OF THE SOUTHERN PLAINS ACROSS MISSOURI INTO ILLINOIS TODAY AND TONIGHT. MODERATE TO HEAVY SNOW WILL DEVELOP IN SOUTHEAST IOWA...NORTHEAST MISSOURI AND WESTERN ILLINOIS FROM MID AFTERNOON INTO THIS EVENING. THE SNOW WILL BECOME LIGHT LATE TONIGHT...WITH LIGHT SNOW LINGERING THROUGH FRIDAY. TOTAL ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO 7 INCHES CAN BE EXPECTED OVER MOST OF THE AREA. EAST WINDS SHOULD INCREASE THIS AFTERNOON AND EVENING AND GUST TO AROUND 30 MPH. THIS WILL PRODUCE SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF THE SNOW. THE WINDS ARE EXPECTED TO DECREASE LATER TONIGHT AND FRIDAY.

...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 3 PM CST FRIDAY...

* TIMING...SNOW WILL DEVELOP AROUND 5 PM TO 6 PM ALONG THE INTERSTATE 80 CORRIDOR...SPREADING NORTH ACROSS ALL OF EASTERN IOWA AND NORTHWEST ILLINOIS BETWEEN 6 AND 8 PM. THE SNOW WILL MAY BE HEAVY AT TIMES THIS EVENING. OCCASIONAL LIGHT SNOW WILL LINGER INTO FRIDAY.

* SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...TOTALS OF 4 TO 5 INCHES...ISOLATED 6 INCHES.

* WINDS...EAST 10 TO 20 MPH WITH GUSTS TO NEAR 30 MPH PRODUCING SOME BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW THIS EVENING INTO THE OVERNIGHT. THE WINDS WILL DIMINISH BY EARLY FRIDAY MORNING.

* VISIBILITIES...LESS THAN A HALF MILE AT TIMES THIS EVENING.

* TEMPERATURES...IN THE MID 20S.

* IMPACTS...CONDITIONS WILL DETERIORATE RAPIDLY ONCE THE SNOW BEGINS. TRAVEL WILL BECOME HAZARDOUS DUE TO POOR VISIBILITY AND ROADS BECOMING QUICKLY SNOW COVERED AND ICY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY FOR SNOW MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW WILL CAUSE TRAVEL DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLICK...SNOW COVERED ROADS AND LIMITED VISIBILITIES...AND BE CAREFUL WHILE DRIVING.
