The school nurse at the Eagle Heights Elementary School is being praised for her quick actions to help save a life.
Superintendent Deb Olson said about 11:30 Wednesday a parent reported that there was a person outside the building laying on the sidewalk. She said it was the building custodian, Patrick Schwartz, who collapsed while clearing snow.
Olson said the reports she has received stated that the school nurse, Emily Randolph,
evaluated the situation, did CPR, and then used the AED to shock the heart.
The superintendent said it was her understanding that when Randolph initially checked the individual there was no heartbeat.
The fire department rescue teams arrived within five minutes and took over the care. She said by the time paramedics arrived a heart beat had been reestablished.
Olson said the building principal reported to her that Randolph used her training and handled the situation quickly-efficiently and without hesitation
Schwartz was transported to the hospital and was receiving cardiac care. Olson said he is married and has three children.
Randolph has worked for the Clinton School District since 2009
The Superintendent concluded – she cannot tell you the admiration and pride that I have for the quick responses of our Eagle Heights nurse and staff, and our fire department who saved a life.
