February ended nearly normal for the overall temperature. Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature of 26.6 degrees was three-tenths of degree below the historical average.
The highest reading came on February 18th with 56 degrees. The lowest temperature was 5-below zero on the first.
In the ‘winter’ of December-January-February, Blaess says there were three days with zero or below temperatures and the normal is eleven over that period.
In February, the weather observer reported nearly nine inches of snow and that’s about three inches above normal for the month. Blaess added that over 5.5 inches of the total snow was in the storm on the 26th and 27th.
For the snow season to date of October thru February Blaess says there has been 16.five inches of snow and compares to the average thru the end of February of nearly 26 inches of snow.
Precipitation in February was more than normal. Blaess says there was 1.9 inches of precipitation which is four-tenths of an inch above normal. For the first two months of year the weather observer said there has been about 3.8 inches of precipitation and that’s nearly an inch above normal.
For March, Blaess says you can expect about three inches of snow and a total of about two inches of precipitation. Temperatures on March first average 41 for the high and 24 for the low and by the end of the month those are 57 and 35.
The weather observer did mention that last year it was warmest March in records to 1879. Blaess says the month included breaking six record highs and tieing one with six days of 80 or above. The overall average temperature was 15 degrees above the normal.
