Air Quality Alert Issued
(Clinton) -- The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has issued an air quality alert for Clinton and portions of Eastern Iowa through mid-day Saturday.
Eddie Elkin with the D-N-R was asked by K-R-O-S News why the air quality alert was issued during the winter. He said that winds were not as strong as they should have been allowing particulate levels to rise. Elkin says that those residents who have health issues need to curtail some of their outside activities.
Levels above the 24-hour fine particle standard were recorded Friday at two Clinton locations: 38 at Rainbow Park and 41 at Chancy Park. The air monitors recorded 42 fine particles per cubic meter in Clinton Thursday. The Environmental Protection Agency has set a 24-hour health threshold for fine particles at 35 micrograms per meter.
