Vacant judge's position to be filled (Clinton) -- There are a dozen applicants for the District Court Judge's position serving the area and a couple of those have local connections A couple of local attorneys have thrown their names into consideration for the open spot of district court judge in the 7th District.
The appointment would be to fill the position after the retirement of District Judge David Sivright of Clinton.
Clinton City Attorney Jeff Farwell and Clinton County Attorney Mike Wolf are among a dozen applicants for the position.
At the Monday meeting of the County Board, Wolf did discuss the issue briefly with the Supervisors.
He said that 'if' selected there is a process in the code to fill a vacancy in his elected position.
The 7th District’s Judicial Nominating Commission will meet in formal session Friday to interview the candidates and nominate two of them for the position. The interview portion of the meetings is open to the public.
Candidates applications are available for viewing at the District Court Administrator’s Office at the Scott County Courthouse. Applications can also be viewed at www.iowacourts.gov.
Gov. Terry Branstad will select one of the nominees for the judgeship.
The 7th District includes Scott, Clinton, Muscatine, Cedar and Jackson counties. The district nominating commission consists of 11 people from the district, five of whom are elected by the lawyers and five of whom are appointed by the governor.
