The Camanche Avenue renovation project in Clinton received a financial boost today from the Federal Government.
The city received notification that 2-point-7 million dollars has been allocated in a Department of Transportation program called TIGER grants.
The funding will go towards the multi year renovation of the Highway 30-67 corridor that has been underway and with the final portion currently underway.
Clinton City Administrator Jeffrey Horne says the $2.7 million dollars will help in paying the city’s portion of the project led by the Iowa DOT. He says it will help save the local taxpayers some funds and it’s “ a good thing for us.”
The Clinton City Administrator says the trips to Washington helped in obtaining the grant. He said it was a team effort of many organizations and agencies working with the city.
Horne says there was about 500-million dollars allocated for the transportation grants and probably 15-billion dollars worth of applications from around the country.
With the funding to help on the Camanche Avenue project, Horne says that might free up some other funding earmarked for transportation to help with other projects such as finishing the 19th Avenue extension.
