Nomination to fill judge's position in the area
(Clinton) -- A committee selected two finalists for an opening in the 7th Judicial District.
The 7th District’s Judicial Nominating Commission submitted the names of Joel Barrows of Bettendorf and Mark Lawson of Bellevue, Iowa, to be considered to fill a position after the retirement of District Judge David Sivright Jr. of Clinton.
Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad will select one of the nominees for the judgeship.
Clinton County Attorney Mike Wolf and Clinton City Attorney Jeff Farwell were among the dozen candidates interviewed Friday for the position.
Twelve submitted applications last week. The commission met in formal session Friday and interviewed the candidates before nominating two of them for the position.
The 7th District includes Scott, Clinton, Muscatine, Cedar and Jackson counties.
