With little discussion the Clinton City Council approved an agreement between the Mercy Hospital and Fire Department for the department’s ambulance service to serve as an emergency backup for emergency out of town transfers if other options are not available. The hospital uses the Medic ambulance service or air care for those transfers.
This is the second time the council has approved the general agreement-but the first vote was vetoed by Mayor Mark Vulich and then sent back to a committee to develop more details. That proposal was the one approved at the meeting last night.
Council member Maggie Klaes was the only council member to comment and stated her opposition to the agreement.
One citizen spoke against approving the agreement during the audience comment portion of the meeting.
Jeff Medinger said the fire department should not be sending their personnel out of town to help a private business.
Council members Klaes plus John Rowland and Paul Gassman were the no votes on the resolution-the same 4 to 3 vote as the first time the issue was before the council.
