A couple of cooling areas to open (Clinton ) -- With the hot weather the City and County will open their buildings for cooling centers on Thursday and Friday The National Weather Service has upgrade the heat advisory for the Clinton County area-eastern Iowa and Western Illinois to an excessive heat warning. Temperatures in the 90’s to near 100 are predicted thru Friday night into early Saturday. The National Weather Service says the high temperatures combined with the high humidity will make heat index-or what it feels like outdoors to well over 100 and only dropping into the upper 70’s overnight.
With the hot weather a couple of cooling centers will be opened for Thursday and Friday.
City officials have announced that City Hall-at 611 South 3rd Street will be open on Thursday and Friday from 8 AM to 4:30 PM as a cooling area.
Contact the Administration at City Hall, phone 563.242.2144 with any questions.
The Emergency Management Agency also issued a statement that the County Administration building Cafeteria area will also be open as a cooling on Thursday and Friday. The Administration Building is located at 1900 N. 3rd Street in Clinton. Anyone needing a place to cool off over the weekend, on the Holiday, or during the evenings can call Clinton County Communications at 563-242-9211 ext. 4532 which is answered 24hrs. a day.
If you have neighbors who are elderly or have medical issues, please check on them periodically to ensure that they are able to keep cool. Also keep your pets cool if they are outside.
