.TEMPERATURES WILL CLIMB TO AROUND 100 TODAY AND COMBINE WITH HIGH HUMIDITY TO SEND THE HEAT INDEX INTO THE DANGEROUS CATEGORY. HEAT INDEX VALUES WILL CLIMB TO AROUND 105 BY LATE THIS MORNING AND CONTINUE THROUGH THE AFTERNOON. A COLD FRONT DROPPING SOUTH INTO THE REGION TONIGHT WILL LIMIT THE EXCESSIVE HEAT TO AREAS SOUTH OF HIGHWAY 30 ON WEDNESDAY.

* TIMING...LATE MORNING THROUGH THE EVENING ON TUESDAY.

* HEAT INDEX/TEMPERATURE...MAXIMUM TEMPERATURES AROUND 100 WITH HEAT INDEX VALUES AROUND 105...ESPECIALLY DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING.

* IMPACTS...HOT AND HUMID CONDITIONS WILL INCREASE THE RISK FOR HEAT RELATED ILLNESSES.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY IS EXPECTED. THIS COMBINATION WILL LEAD TO POSSIBLE HEAT ILLNESSES. DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ROOM...STAY OUT OF THE SUN...AND CHECK ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS...ESPECIALLY THE ELDERLY.

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE. WEAR LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE IS AN EMERGENCY...CALL 9 1 1.
