Victims in last Friday's fatal car crash ID'd

(Clinton) -- See statement from the Clinton County Sheriff's Office on the fatal crash with more details and identifying the victims.

The Clinton County Medical Examiner’s Office has positively identified the three victims involved in the fatality accident which had occurred on Friday, August 3, 2012 at 11:40 a.m. This was regarding a collision between a car and semi-tractor trailer in the 1100 block of Hwy 67 south of Sabula, IA in Clinton County.

The driver of the blue Saturn 4 door was identified as Devon Antwon Mapp, age 30, of Minneapolis, MN who recently moved to Clinton, IA. The passenger in the rear seat behind the driver was identified as Brittany McGee, age 24, of Clinton, IA, also formerly of Minneapolis, MN. The passenger in the right rear seat was identified as Da’ Marion LaMont Latez Mapp, a 5 month old baby boy. He was sitting in a rear-facing car seat.

The Saturn was owned by Gabrielle Goudy of Clinton, IA.

The investigation revealed that the blue Saturn was traveling southbound on Hwy 67 and was passing another car on a hill marked with a yellow “No Passing Zone.” The Saturn collided head-on with a north-bound International semi-tractor trailer owned by Blue Hyll Transport, LLC of rural Clinton, IA. The driver of the truck was Jeff Rogis of Miles, IA. Rogis was not injured in the collision.

The Clinton County Medical Examiner’s Office listed the probable cause of death as: Traumatic injury from a motor vehicle collision due to a head-on crash with a semi. Contributing factors were: Speed, force of impact and size of the vehicles.

An autopsy was performed by the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny on Saturday, August 4, 2012 where positive identification of each victim was determined.

The accident remains under investigation by the Iowa State Patrol and Iowa Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement.
