The busiest part of the rabies season peaks in August and September, and this year is no different from the rest.
The Iowa Department of Public Health has consulted to date: 450 rabies-related situations and issues, and 23 animals have tested positive for rabies. This includes 10 bats, eight skunks, four cows and one cat.
One of the ten bats that was found came from Clinton County. No animals with rabies was confirmed in the surrounding counties. The closest report in eastern Iowa was a cat in Dubuque county. The Iowa Department of Health report was updated August 13th.
In 2011 there were no reported animals with rabies confirmed in Clinton County.
