Dirt work delayed at Middle School site
(Clinton) -- School district told if site preparation was started this fall it would have to be done over again in the spring. That puts construction on 'tight' schedule to be ready for 2014 school year.
Work is being delayed on the site for the new Clinton Middle School to avoid having to do to earth work twice. Some site work had been planned for this fall to speed up the construction process.
Clinton School Superintendent Deb Olson says further soil testing showed that if the district did some of the site work as planned this fall they would have to do it over again in the spring at the site at the corner of 13th Avenue North and 16th Street Northwest.
She said “we will wait to break ground until next spring on the property, as far as even moving dirt.” Olson said the district would have spent an extra $100,000 for doing the site preparation work twice.
Olson said the plan now calls for the contracts to be awarded for the job later this year. But the Clinton School Superintendent says the building could still be ready for the opening of the 2014 school year. “It will be a tight schedule,” according to Olson, adding “weather will have to be pretty good for use, but they at this point in time they say it is still doable.
The new middle school is an about $20-million project that will house 7th and 8th grades and 6th grade will be housed at the current Lyons Middle School.
