FYI Show from today (Clinton) -- A series of statewide workshops in September will introduce Iowans to the tools they need to become engaged citizens and build stronger communities. That was the topic of the FYI show- link to listen to the show in in details FYI Show on 'The People Have The Power Workshops'
The program is sponsored by the Iowa Freedom of Information Council, a coalition of journalists, librarians, attorneys, educators and other Iowans concerned about open government. The event is free and open to the public.
Each workshop will be introduced by either Gov. Terry Branstad or Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds. Kathleen Richardson, executive secretary of the Iowa FOI Council, will present the program with a local host in each community.
The schedule for the workshops, all of which begin at 7 p.m., is below:
• Sept. 6 — Dubuque, Loras College, Alumni Campus Center, Ballrooms A & C; introduced by Lt. Gov. Reynolds and co-hosted by Brian Cooper, executive editor of the Dubuque Telegraph Herald.
• Sept. 11 — Storm Lake, King’s Pointe Waterpark and Resort, Awaysi Ballroom A; introduced by Gov. Branstad, co-hosted by longtime Iowa journalist Chuck Offenburger.
• Sept. 18 — Iowa City, Hotel Vetro, Plaza Room; introduced by Lt. Gov. Reynolds, co-hosted by Lyle Muller, executive director of Iowa Watch, the Iowa Center for Public Affairs Journalism.
• Sept. 27 — Des Moines, Des Moines Botanical Center, Oak-Willow Room; introduced by Gov. Branstad, co-hosted by Rick Green, editor of The Des Moines Register.
The program is funded by a grant from the National Freedom of Information Coalition and organized with support from the Iowa Newspaper Foundation. It has also received support from the Iowa Broadcasters Association, the Iowa League of Cities, the Iowa State Association of Counties, the Iowa Association of School Boards, the Office of Citizens’ Aide/Ombudsman and the Iowa Attorney General’s Office.
