Second Chance
(Clinton) -- Clinton is under consideration for a second round of demonstration sites focused on helping people live longer, healthier, happier lives.
Clinton has a second chance to become a Blue Zones demonstration site. Earlier four communities were selected as the first sites for the program to promote healthy lifestyles and today a dozen communities over ten-thousand in population were selected for consideration in the second round.
Clinton made the list for consideration in this round.
One of the leaders of the local effort is Hy-Vee Dietician Beth Freehill said "we are very exited."
Freehill says on of the first efforts now is to stress community involvement through registering support on-line. She says Clinton is at about 12-percent support in the on-line program and wants to get to 20-percent.
She says the concept is to have a community where people live a happy, healthier and longer life.
Freehill is part of a group of people who have been working on the project for months. She said 'it's great to see their hard work paid off," but there are also a lot of people who have been working on the project."
In addition to Clinton other large cities included in the second round consideration are.
- Altoona - Burlington - Cedar Rapids Davenport Dubuque - Iowa City Marion Muscatine Ottumwa Oskaloosa - Sioux City
Mason City, Cedar Falls, Waterloo and Spencer were chosen as the first sites earlier this year.
Also today-nine smaller communities were chosen as Blue Zones demonstration sites for communities under ten-thousand population.
Osage, Algona Audubon, Decorah, Fairfield, Harlan, Red Oak, Spirit Lake and Woodbine were the communities chosen in that category.
