Cooler And Wetter

(Clinton) -- October was the third month in a row that was cooler than normal

October ended cooler and wetter than normal. Official Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says October was the third month in a row with below normal temperatures. He says the overall average was just over 50 degrees with was a little more than two degrees below the average of the month.

During the month the highest temperature was 81 on the 24th. Blaess says that was the latest 80 degree reading for the year since 1989 when it was 80 – also on October 24th. The 81 this year was not a record for the date.

The lowest temperature was 24 recorded on October 29th. But, Blaess says a frost and freeze was recorded earlier when it dropped to 28 on October 6th.

Precipitation for the month was 2.6 inches which is about a tenth of an inch above the average. For the year-to-date precipitation, Blaess says the area has recorded 20.9 inches of precipitation which is about 9.5 inches below average for the first ten months.

The Clinton area weather observer says 2012 is still the second driest year in records back to 1878. The driest year was 1988 with about 19.6 inches of precipitation for the 12 months.

For this month Blaess says you can expected just over 2 inches of precipitation and would include about 1.5 inches of snow.

Temperatures drop for an average high of 56 and a low of 36 on November first to averages of 40 and 24 by the end of the month.
