A little over two-million dollars from the Iowa DOT has been allocated to some projects in the Clinton and Clinton County area.
The action came at the D-O-T meeting Tuesday. Agency officials say the program amendment was made possible because additional funding was made available after the program was approved in June. Those funds are the result of favorable construction project lettings, Iowa Department of Transportation budget savings and receipt of federal funding in excess of forecasted amounts.
Clinton Mayor Mark Vulich made the announcement at the council meeting. He said he was ‘thrilled to announce the DOT knows we exist in the farthest reaches of eastern Iowa” and this is a “nice amount of money’ to bring into the area.
The funding includes over $83,000 for work on the railroad crossing on South 19th near Collis. A new type of traffic signal for the Mill Creek Parkway and South Second Street was approved for $60,000 with a $20,000 local match. Also in the county there was $72,000 allocated to re-align an intersection at Z*40 and E*50. A gated rail crossing was approved at $275,000 on the road leading to the rail park that is in the county.
Another regional project was $1.8-million allocated for widening Highway 61 from Welton to the Maquoketa area.
