City Administrator Search

(Clinton) -- Interim city administrator selected to serve while search is underway for a new city administrator

Clinton Finance Director Jessica Kinser will be appointed to serve at the interim city administrator while the search is underway for a new Clinton City Administrator. That move was made during this morning’s (Monday) special council meeting to discuss the search process.

The first step for the council was to appoint a search committee of community members that will review applications for the post and recommend finalists for the council to consider.

Over two dozen names had been submitted for consideration and that was narrowed down to a dozen members. Selected for the committee were Reverend Ron Lott, Nathan Sondegroth, LaMetta Wynn, Mike Rastrelli, Tim Clark, Erin George, Pat Lonergan, Karen Vickers, Rita Mullholland, Dave Keefer, Police Chief Brian Guy and Fire Chief Mike Brown.

The city’s Human Resource consultant Paul Greufe will lead the search process. He hopes when the process is over the committee members felt they play a role in selecting a new city administrator. Greufe was to contact the suggested members to start to arrange meetings.

The council did agree to the contract with Greufe to pay him about 22-thousand dollars for the work.

At last week’s council meeting the council supported the idea of an interim city administrator and that the person be an internal candidate. At today’s (Monday) meeting-council member John Rowland said he had talked with Finance Director Jessica Kinser about the job. Kinser said she was interested in the interim post.

She said she recognized the time constraints of the extra work but looked forward to the challenge.

Kinser said her education background is in public administration and she worked for county in Michigan as a financial analyst for a short period of time and as the city administrator in Griswold, Iowa a town of about one-thousand for nearly two years before taking the Clinton Finance Director job. Rowland said he also talked with Kinser about compensation and other benefits for the job that the council will have to approve later.

Greufe also outlined some ideas for the process of the committee in developing a list of finalists for the council to consider and how the council could schedule interviews with those finalists. The council also asked for updates on the process in their weekly reports.
