For the first time in a year the temperature in Clinton dropped to zero. Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess reported that it was zero this morning (Monday) and that was the first time we’ve had zero since January 20th – 2012.
Blaess added that last time it was ‘below zero’ was February 10 of 2011 when it was 17-below zero.
The record low for this date is minus 26 in 1970 and for Tuesday the record is also 26 below set in 1930.
The official weather observer says some recalculation of the statistics showed 2012 was the second warmest year on record – not the warmest as first calculated. Blaess says 1921 with an overall temperature of 54-point-5 is the warmest and 2012 with an average of 54 is second.
On another weather note – Blaess says so far this month there has been just over one inch of snow and the average is 9 inches for January.
For the snow season so far-which starts in October-the snowfall has totaled six inches and typically through the October to end of January the average is nearly 19 inches. He adds for the snow season of October through April the average is 30 inches of snow.
In the snow season of 2011 through 2012 there was 20 inches of snow.
