The city is moving towards a contract with a new marina operator. The council earlier decided not to renew the contract with the operator, Skipper Bud, after a five year term and seek a better deal.
After proposals were received and the City Services Committee interview candidates the committee recommended Matt Prescott the current operator of the Candlelight Restaurant as the marina and RV camping area in Riverfront Park.
Prescott told the council at the committee of the whole session last night he believes having a common management for the riverfront will be a benefit for everyone. He believes it will give better service to boaters and others.
Prescott said cleanliness and better hours would be a couple of the first steps. He said a mechanic has already been lined up to work on site. Prescott said he believes they will have the service level needed to go with the city’s premier facility. He acknowledges they don’t have a lot of marina experience, but we are know customer service and will learn the marina business.
Prescott says they have several other ideas to improve the service for boaters and also provide something for citizens along the riverfront.
The general proposal is to pay Prescott $120,000 a year to manage the marina and R-V campground.
At the Committee of the Whole the council approved moving ahead with the giving the city attorney the OK to negotiate a contract based on the proposal. Formal approval to move ahead will come at the next business meeting.
