After the coldest April in Clinton weather records last month ended as the 5th warmest May

Clinton area official weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature averaged 67.9 degrees and was 5.4  degrees above average of 62.5 degrees.

Blaess says May 1977 is the warmest on record at just 69.5 degrees.  He says the weather records date to 1879.

The others in the top five include May 1934 at 68 and then 1896 also at 69 and May 1881 at average of 68.2 degrees.

There were two days with 90 or above temperatures and one of those tied a record high.  Blaess says the 93 degrees on May 28th tied the record set in 1914 and tied in 1991 and 2006.

The lowest temperature was 44 on the 12th and Blaess says the 2nd highest low for the month in records.  The record is 46 that occurred in May 1922 and 1896.

Precipitation for the month was above normal.  Blaess recorded 5.29 inches of precipitation which he says is above the normal of 3.94 inches.

For the first five months of the year the precipitation total is 11.84 inches and below the normal of 12.31 inches.

Blaess says for June the average high on the first in 78 and the low is 56.  He says those increase to 85 and 64 by the end of the month.  The Clinton area weather observer says there are an average of 4 days with highs at 90 or above.

During June, Blaess says you can expect 4.6 inches of precipitation.
