Chamber Music Concert set for Sunday

Event Details

A quartet and two trios will perform on Clinton Symphony Orchestra’s annual Chamber Music Concert Sunday [11/6] afternoon. Concert time is 3:00 pm in the sanctuary of Zion Lutheran Church, 439 3rd Ave. S in Clinton.

The program will open with Dawn Carol by Margaret Lowe, performed by the Grace Notes Flute Quartet. Clinton Symphony’s principal flutist Crystal Duffee and her colleagues Cheryl Jordan, Karen McClintock, and Sue Wiley will play from various locations throughout the room. The quartet will then play an Adagio and Scherzo by Belgian composer Adolph Wouters.

A trio composed by Alan Guss, a member of the orchestra’s French horn section, will follow. Flutist Crystal Duffee and Clinton Symphony’s principal bassoonist, Tom Wood, will join Guss to perform the two-movement work entitled Cicada Gossip.

Rounding out the program will be a trio by Mozart, played by Nadia Wirchnianski, piano, David Bean, clarinet, and David Spalding, cello. The piece is known as the Kegelstatt Trio, referencing Mozart’s frequent visits to a bowling alley in Vienna where he could relax with friends. One musicologist speculates that he could have written the piece in the bowling alley, but others suggest that the inspiration just came to him while relaxing during the game.

Clinton Symphony Orchestra is in its 63rd season, and performs concerts in Clinton, Morrison, and Sterling. Additional information on the season is available on the Symphony’s website at www.clintonsymphony.org.

Tickets for Sunday’s concert will be available at the door, or in advance at Tegeler Music in Clinton, Fitzgerald Pharmacy in Morrison, Grummert’s Hardware in Sterling, or online. Adult admission is $15, and students are admitted free of charge.
