Connie Barr will be giving talks about two popular collectibles. She will talk about Featherweights, which are older, collectible sewing machines, and feedsacks, which went from holding chicken feed and flour to dressing the whole family. Connie had a quilt shop in Morrison for over twenty years and now has her own studio, and has been a longtime collector of both the machines and the fabrics.

These interesting and informative talks will be given hourly on September 20, from 12 to 4pm on Sunday. It will be at the Super Wash Training Center, on Lincolnway in Morrison, at a Best of Yesteryear event. Guests will also be given a coupon for a special lunch deal that weekend at the Family Chef Restaurant, directly in front of the show.

Connie will be available for questions after her talks. Both of these items are no longer sold, but people don’t realize their value. If your mother or grandmother has left you with household items, you may have these yourself.

If you have a machine that looks like a Featherweight, bring a picture. Connie will let you know. She will also let you know how to care for it

The talks are part of a River Cities Quilt Guild event called Best of Yesteryear which is being held in the Super Wash Training Center behind the Shell Gas Station and Family Chef Restaurant on Routes 30 and 78. The address is 701 West Lincolnway, Morrison. Admission is only three dollars for all activities, with age 16 and under getting in for free.

There are also quilt displays, door prizes, counting contest, bed turning, a section with area shops with sewing supplies and fabrics, and a whole room full of items handmade by quilters. You can start your holiday shopping, and feel free to bring your camera. For more information, go to facebook.com/rivercitiesquiltersguild.fultonil.
