Mercy offers Videoconference program on Tobacco Addiction

You are invited to attend a panel presentation on smoking cessation to be held by videoconference on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. The speaker, Lorene Mein, ARNP, Ph.D, who will connect from Mercy Medical Center-Des Moines, is a family practice nurse practitioner associated with Mercy Clinics Inc. in Des Moines.

The program is free and open to the public. The intended audience for this presentation is tobacco users, family members, and health care providers. During the presentation, Mein will identify the different types of tobacco, overview how tobacco affects adults and children through primary use, secondary, and tertiary exposure and identify resources and programs for children and adults regarding tobacco use, cessation, and prevention.

Lorene Mein is a Family Nurse Practitioner with Mercy East Village Family Practice clinic in Des Moines. Along with working in family practice, she provides a tobacco treatment program for patients in the Des Moines area. Lorene received her BSN-RN from Grand View College in Des Moines. She received her MSN degree for her Family Nurse Practitioner certification from the University of Minnesota. Her graduate project was preventing tobacco addiction in elementary students. Lorene received her doctorate from the University of Iowa. Her doctoral capstone project was developing and implementing a family practice treatment program. Lorene has treated tobacco addiction for over 16 years and is currently an American Lung Association board member and is their tobacco expert. She is also certified in the American Lung Association’s Freedom from Smoking program.

The presentation will be by videoconference in Conference Room C at Mercy Medical Center – North Campus. There is no cost to attend, but seating is limited. Please reserve a place by contacting the Mercy Community Services Line at 244-3539.
