MercyOne offers free “Food as Preventive Medicine” event Aug. 22

Have you been wondering what the microgreens trend is all about? Did you grow some vegetables in your garden this summer and are looking for tasty ways to prepare them for your family? Are you interested in eating a healthier, whole-food diet? MercyOne Clinton Medical Center will offer a free community event called “Food as Preventive Medicine” on Thursday, Aug. 22 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the medical center’s lower-level conference rooms, 1410 N. 4th St., Clinton.

This event features local providers of microgreens, gardening experts, culinary professionals, dietitians and others who will provide samples and tips for eating healthier and preparing tasty dishes with nutritious whole foods, fruits and vegetables. Vendors include: ISU Extension Office, Anne Haring from Recipe for Life, HyVee Health Market, Skyline Center/Microgreens, Let’s Live Healthy Clinton and MercyOne Café with “Drink This, Not That” healthy, refreshing beverages.

There will be three presentations during the event:

  • Shawn Felt and Letha Dolph, Skyline Center, on “Microgreens”
  • Anne Haring, Healthy Cooking Coach, Recipe for Life
  • MercyOne Clinical Dietitian Margaret Alstead, RD, LD, on “Nutrient-Dense Foods”
