November Miller Program to Highlight Laura Ingalls Wilder and Thanksgiving

Event Details

The Volunteer Millers at de Immigrant windmill in Fulton, Illinois, will host their monthly public program on Sunday, November 6, at 2:00 PM. The event will be held at the Windmill Cultural Center at 111 – 10th Avenue in downtown Fulton, across from the authentic Dutch windmill. The programs are supported by a grant from the D.S. Flikkema Foundation.

Originally presented at the national Association of Living History Farms and Museums conference, “Thanksgiving: From Pilgrims to Pioneer” looks at some examples of how Thanksgiving was celebrated over the years. The Ingalls family serves as guides but included is information from many other sources. It traces back traditions to where they belong (mostly with the Victorians) and talks about why we associate Thanksgiving with the Pilgrims.

Lifelong Laura Ingalls Wilder enthusiast Sarah Uthoff will present “Thanksgiving: From Pilgrims to Pioneer.”  Sarah received both her BA in history education and her Masters of Library Science from the University of Iowa. She is currently a reference librarian at Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids. Sarah is an active Wilder researcher and served as president of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Legacy and Research Association. She is also listmistress for the Country School Association of America and serves on their board.

The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served following the presentation. The facility is accessible to persons with disabilities. For more information, visit the Windmill Cultural Center and de Immigrant Windmill Facebook page or call 815-589-3925.
