River Arts Center Features Art Faculty Exhibit

Event Details

This event finished on 30 March 2016

The River Arts Center is now showing an exhibit of art by eleven art faculty members of Clinton and Scott Community Colleges, Ashford University, and Augustana College. Co-ordinated by Robyn L. Smith, art instructor at CCC, it brings together a colorful combination of realism, abstract, and non-objective art in paintings, photography, fiber art, and pottery. The exhibit will be shown through Sunday, April 3, with an artist’s reception on Sunday, March 6, from 1:30-3:30. The River Arts Center is located at 229-5th Ave. South in downtown Clinton, Iowa. All exhibits are free and open to the public with regular hours Wednesday through Sunday from 1-4 PM.
Rob Lipnick, formerly of CCC and now with Scott, works in ceramic sculpture and is displaying “Mountains of Iowa” and large plates in ceramic and glaze. Fiber art by Kimberly Darling, recently retired from Scott as an Interior Design instructor, begins with sheep’s fleece, washing it and creating her own yarns, these displayed on horizontal distaffs. Beth Wood, Math instructor at CCC, has been inspired by Navajo weavings, spinning and weaving her own themes into her art.
Dave Stedwell of Ashford University captures nature in photographic prints on white enameled aluminum panels. Patrick Cheak with CCC photographs people in their familiar settings in silver print while Christopher Legel of CCC explores line, texture, and light in his photographic prints.
Bright abstract panels in acrylic and college are displayed by Trew Schriefer who teaches art at Augustana and Scott. Brian Allen, Outreach Educator at the Figge Art Museum and on the Scott faculty explores the emotions and spatial relationships of people in his abstract paintings. Anna Pagnucci of Ashford combines the color and vibrancy of her Italian heritage with the more neutral colors of the Midwest. Sherry Maurer, who teaches at Eastern Iowa Community Colleges and Blackhawk College, is also Executive Director of Midcoast Fine Arts. Her paintings tell the story of her adopted daughter from China. Last but not least, our own Robyn Smith is showing her landscapes and animals, which she prefers to paint outdoors and in natural settings. We appreciate her efforts to bring in her students from CCC to assist in our gallery in many ways, the latest being to paint our gallery in a new, fresh color. Come in and visit us!
