Whoopi Goldberg’s hilarious portrayal of a singing nun in the movie, “Sister Act” gives the moviegoer many laughs and much fun at Odell Public Library as the film of the month. Sponsored by Friends of Odell Public Library, “Sister Act” will be shown on Tuesday, September 10 beginning at 2:00 PM. Popcorn and Pop will enhance the viewing pleasure.
When lively lounge singer, Deloris Van Cartier (Whoopi Goldberg) witnesses her mobster boyfriend, Vince LaRocca commit murder, she is relocated for her protection in a convent. In her disguise as a nun in a California convent, Deloris upends the quiet lives of the resident sisters. The Mother Superior assigns Deloris to the choir to keep her out of trouble. However, Deloris soon turns this ensemble of nuns into a vibrant, gospel act that gains widespread attention.
Several sisters in supporting roles round out the film. Kathy Najimy is slightly plump perky nun with a bad singing voice who adds to the comedy of the film. Wendy Makkena is a shy and quiet nun who becomes a real belter and Mary Wickes portrays an older character that sounds as if she is half nun and half marine when giving orders.
Come and have fun while watching the hijinks of Whoopi Goldberg in a great role and listen to the singing Sister Act!
