Join in the Stop the Hate/Show the Love Walk on Thursday, September 17
Our Community: A Peaceful Place is the theme of this year’s annual Stop the Hate/Show the Love Walk on Thursday, September 17, sponsored by the Clinton Peace Coalition. Individuals, families, organizations and people of all ages are invited to attend and participate in this fun and meaningful event as a statement of hope and witness to peace in our community.

Walkers are encouraged to gather at Clinton Community College, 1000 Lincoln Boulevard, at 4:45 pm. A short program at 5:15 pm will be given by Dr. Karen Vickers, President of Clinton Community College, and members of the Clinton Peace Coalition with music by Clinton High School’s a cappella choir, directed by Karl Wolf.

Banners with signatures of students pledging their commitment to peace will be carried by representatives from Clinton schools. Every student who signs the banner will receive a “Peace: It’s a Choice” wristband. Members of the public will have the opportunity to receive a wristband at the walk with a freewill donation to the Clinton Peace Coalition.

The Stop the Hate /Show the Love Walk will begin at 5:30 pm and end at Ashford University, 400 North Bluff Boulevard. Upon arrival, music by the Ashford University Choir, directed by Rob Engelson, will greet walkers. Dr. Charlie Minnick, Ashford’s campus director, will welcome the participants and a short program by members of the Clinton Peace Coalition will follow. The event will conclude with a monarch butterfly release.

In case of inclement weather, the entire event will be held at Clinton Community College.

The walk will be followed by a free showing of the movie “A Force More Powerful” at 6:30 pm at The Canticle, 841 13th Avenue North. Complimentary popcorn and pop will be served.

The mission of the Clinton Peace Coalition is to promote a holistic approach to a peaceful lifestyle through the education, collaboration and cooperation of individuals, families and the organizations and agencies of our community. The Clinton Peace Coalition is comprised of representatives from Clinton Community College, Ashford University, YWCA Clinton, Sisters of St. Francis, New Directions, Clinton Parks & Recreation and the Clinton Community School District Diversity Committee, along with individuals from our communities for whom the promotion of peace is a passion.
