Volunteer Miller Program Featuring Brian “Fox” Ellis Set for June 30
The Volunteer Millers at De Immigrant windmill in Fulton, Illinois, will host “The River as Time Machine” starring Brian “Fox” Ellis on Thursday, June 30, at 6:30 PM. The
event will be held at the Windmill Cultural Center at 111 – 10thAvenue in downtown Fulton, across from the city’s authentic Dutch windmill. The event is being produced in
part by the Illinois Humanities Road Scholars Speakers Bureau, a program that provides Illinois organizations with affordable, entertaining, and thought-provoking humanities events for their communities.
Riverlorian Brian “Fox” Ellis invites us to travel through geological history to witness the origins of Illinois’ great rivers, paddle our canoes with Père Marquette and the French explorers as they contact Native Americans, and meet keelboat captain Mike Fink and steamboat captain Henry Detweiller. This musical ramble through history will explore how we humans have shaped the rivers, how the rivers have changed through time, and the importance of rivers in the layers of human history. Ellis hopes that both the rich layers of factual knowledge and the very human tales that he shares in story and song will
strengthen audiences’ identification with our great waterways and inspire people to value
and protect them.  Since 1980, Brian “Fox” Ellis has traveled the United States and the world as a
performer, educator, and storyteller. He began in the art of storytelling while hunting with uncles and cousins in Ohio. They would sit around the fire in the dark and tell tales of
family, heroes, and adventures. He has a college degree in education with an emphasis on storytelling and has been a teacher, counselor, and mentor. He has a passion for history, environmental issues, and local cultures. He is the author of 8 books.

Please note that the performance start time has been changed from 6:00 to 6:30 PM. Refreshments will be served at 6:00 before the start of the program. The facility is accessible to persons with disabilities. For more information, browse the city’s website
