Volunteers Wanted The Clinton County Pioneer Cemetery Commission (CCPCC) is organizing a work day

Event Details

The Clinton County Pioneer Cemetery Commission (CCPCC) is organizing a work day on October 3, from 8am to 4pm, to clean up the overgrown Miller Wilson Pioneer Cemetery. Volunteers will be appreciated as this large Pioneer Cemetery has not had any maintenance for over 40 years. The majority of the day’s work will be focused on brush removal from the cemetery. Items that will be useful to bring for this effort are chain saw, lopping shears, work gloves, and a jug of water. Please wear appropriate woodland work attire (long pants and sleeves).
The Miller Wilson Pioneer Cemetery is located on the west side of Highway 67, north of Clinton. We will be accessing the cemetery through the driveway at 1490 459th Ave, which is on Highway 67 immediately south of the Blue Hyll Dairy. There are over 100 burial sites at this cemetery, two of which are civil war veterans. These renovations are an effort to be respectful of the burials located there, the families of those individuals, and the history of our area. The CCPCC began pioneer cemetery renovations in Clinton County in 1997. This is the last of 28 pioneer cemeteries which has yet to have the tree/brush removal component of the renovations completed in Clinton County. Volunteerism continues to be an important resource to avoid paying for this work with property taxes. Any questions can be directed to Dan Srp at (563) 249-3717.
The CCPCC would also like to thank Seth Anderson and the Anderson Dairy for their assistance in cleaning up the Pleasant Hill Pioneer Cemetery south of the landfill.
