City Continues Population Decline-But Officials Believe Growth Has Occurred in Past Couple Of Years

While the city of Clinton showed a population decline in the recent census while Camanche and DeWitt showed an increase in population from the official count in 2020 compared to the 2010 census.

The official census shows Clinton with a population of 24,469.  That’s drop of 2,416 from the official count in 2010 or about nine percent.  At the recent city council meeting-City Administrator Matt Brooke said they don’t have the detailed breakdown to determine if the city’s wards need to be adjusted.  Mayor Scott Maddasion says he believes the population loss occurred earlier in the decade and has increased in the past couple of years.

In Camanche, the population in the official 2020 count was 4,570 which was an increase of 122 from 2010.

In DeWitt the population increased by 192 to 5,514 in the official census in 2020.

Overall-Clinton County lost population.  The county population was 46,460 in the 2020 and that’s a drop of 656 from 2010.
