Bridge work could impact your driving

Work will be underway on a couple of Mississippi River bridges in the area in the next few days.

One of the bridges will be the North Bridge in Clinton.  Due to bridge inspections, the eastbound lane of the Highway 136 bridge will be closed beginning Monday, September 20, 2021 at 8 a.m.  The bridge will be closed during the hours of 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. each day.  The inspection is anticipated to take 4 or 5 days.

All eastbound traffic will be detoured using Highway 67 and Highway 30.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced today that weather permitting, an inspection of the U.S. 52/Illinois 64 Mississippi River bridge (Dale Gardner Veterans Memorial Bridge) in Savanna will also begin Monday, September 20.

The work will require daily lane closures from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. starting in the westbound lane before later shifting to the eastbound lane. One lane of traffic will be maintained during the inspection, which concludes Thursday, September 23.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area during both projects.. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
