Clintonians Against Data Centers continues a petition drive requesting an 18-month moratorium on all approvals related to data centers of more than 50 contiguous acres and asking that a public vote be held prior to a data center being placed before the City Council for final approval. The group hopes to collect 5,000 signatures on petitions by the end of August.
Members are reviewing documents that the City Plan Commission forwarded to City Council on August 5, and are involved with research and efforts to amend the proposed city ordinance governing data center development. The group plans to attend and speak during the Clinton City Council meeting on Tuesday, August 25 at 5 pm in council chambers and looks forward to participating in roundtable discussions with City Council members beginning September 1 at Eagle Point Lodge.
“We remain committed to doing research, asking questions, and working collaboratively and constructively with our elected officials to make sure our community’s concerns are fully addressed and understood,” said Kevin Bradley, spokesperson for Clintonians Against Data Centers. “We look forward to having meaningful conversations with City Council and working toward changes to the ordinance that protect the interests of our community, especially in regards to noise, lighting, air, property setbacks, electricity, decommissioning and surety bonds, environmental concerns, and health and safety.”
The group encourages residents to sign the petition, contact City Council members to express opposition to the proposed data center, post yard signs, attend the August 25 City Council meeting wearing green shirts, read open records requests posted on the city portal, learn more about the proposed data center, and attend the upcoming roundtable discussions and other open meetings.

Free Concert and Peaceful Protest — September 13
As part of its continued community outreach and peaceful opposition to the proposed data center, organizers are hosting a free concert and peaceful protest on Sunday, September 13, from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Riverview Bandshell in Clinton.
Bands and speakers will be announced soon, according to concert organizer and promoter Robbie Bahr. So far, Jaci & the Juice, Lynn Allen, and Liz & The Bellyswirls have committed to play.
“This event is a fun opportunity for people from our area to come together peacefully, share information, enjoy live music, and make our voices heard,” said Theresa Andrews, Clintonians Against Data Centers. “We invite everyone who cares about the future of our community to join us.”
The group emphasizes that the September 13 event will be peaceful and welcomes everyone who wants to learn more, participate in the discussion, and stand together in opposition to the proposed hyperscale data center.
