DEWITT, Iowa (Sept. 9, 2026) — The City of DeWitt and the DeWitt Chamber & Development Company (DCDC) today announced the start of construction on the East Industrial Street Extension Project, a $10.5 million infrastructure investment that will expand Crossroads Business Park by 149 acres and position DeWitt for continued industrial growth, job creation, and long-term economic development.
The project includes extending East Industrial Street approximately 1,400 feet to 300th Avenue, reconstructing and paving 300th Avenue to four-lane U.S. Highway 30, improving the Highway 30 intersection, and installing water, sanitary sewer, stormwater, and other public infrastructure.
The expansion will create 11 development-ready industrial sites ranging from 4.5 to 27.8 acres, with the ability to accommodate projects as large as 40 acres. Crossroads Business Park currently supports more than 12 industries and more than 1,000 jobs. Community leaders anticipate the expansion will attract at least six additional industries over the next 10 to 15 years, creating an estimated 300 to 500 new jobs while adding approximately $15 million in taxable valuation. The project also improves safety and freight mobility by providing a second access point to the business park and a direct connection to four-lane U.S. Highway 30.

The expansion of Crossroads Business Park and the extension of East Industrial Street are tools to strengthen our local economy, creating family-supporting jobs, growing the tax base that funds essential services, and reinforcing the critical role manufacturing and industry play in the long-term vitality of rural Iowa.”
The project is funded through a partnership among federal, state, and local agencies. The City secured $3.4 million in Community Project Funding through Congresswoman Mariannette Miller-Meeks, $2.92 million through the Iowa Department of Transportation’s RISE Program, and $500,000 through the Iowa DOT Traffic Safety Improvement Program. Combined with the City’s local investment, these partnerships make the $10.5 million project possible.

City Administrator Steve Lindner said the project demonstrates what can be accomplished through strategic partnerships. “The East Industrial Street Extension project is the most significant economic development project for the City of DeWitt this decade, and it will provide dividends for many years. The project would not have been possible without the Mayor and City Council strategically leveraging the City’s investment with federal and state funding. It is only with the support of Congressperson Miller-Meeks, the Iowa Department of Transportation, the DeWitt Chamber & Development Company, Origin Design, and ECIA that this project is possible.”
Mayor Steve Hasenmiller said the project positions the community for long-term success.
