Camanche Schools To Seek Bond Issue Vote For Facility Improvements

Camanche School District residents will be voting on September 8th on a 13.4 million dollar bond issue for updates and renovations to the district facilities.

The School Board received a petition with a couple hundred signatures from supporters of the bond issue to hold the vote at their meeting this week.

School official say they have been reviewing facilities and gather input over the past couple of years to develop a plan.  The projects include various safety and security upgrades, A-D-A compliance, and health and wellness addition and an expansion and update the theater.

Financial consultant Matt Gillespie explained to the board that 2-dollars and 70 cents per thousand dollars levy would be the maximum levy – but that with the rollbacks and other factors a home valued at 100-thousand dollars pays taxes on about half that assessed value.  Gillespie says that calculates to paying about 135 dollars a year or 11 dollars a month.

People can find out more information on the Camanche School District website and it be included in school publications.  Dates and plans for informational meetings will be announced and how those will be held is dependent on the health guidelines.
