On June 11, firefighters responded to a fully involved garage fire at 709 6th Avenue South. Upon arrival, crews found the structure completely engulfed, with flames spreading to three separate neighboring garages. A 360-degree assessment revealed downed power lines and a burning utility pole and transformer, prompting a response from Alliant Energy. Crews deployed multiple hose lines to suppress the main fire and protect exposures. Fire had extended well into one of the neighboring garages, prompting entry and extinguishment.
Two firefighters sustained minor injuries during the incident. No civilian injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
