August 2021 one of the driest in Clinton weather records

August was the 14th warmest August in Clinton weather records to 1879.  Local weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature was 75.6 degrees which was 3 degrees above the normal for the month.

Blaess says there were five days with temperatures of 90 or above with the normal of four days.

He reports the highest temperature was 96 on the 24th and the lowest was 56 recorded on August 2nd, 3rd and 15th.

Precipitation in August totaled .56 of an inch.  Blaess says that made August 2021 the 4th driest in records to 1878.

The driest August was 1901 with .48 of an inch – the 2nd is 1883 with .52 of an inch and third was .54 of an inch in 1897.

The normal precipitation in August according to the weather observer is 4.41 of an inch.

For the first eight months of the year Blaess says the precipitation is 20.53 of an inch which is 4.39 on an inch below the year-to-date average.

In September, Blaess says there is an average of 2.95 of an inch of precipitation.  He adds there average high on September 1st is 81 and average low is 61 and those drop to 71 and 48 by the end of the month.

During the meteorological summer of June-June and August Blaess says it was warmer and drier than normal.  He say precipitation over the three months was 8.09 inches which is 3.85 inches below normal.  Blaess says average temperature was 2.4 degrees above normal.
