Calendar Parking Changes Could Be Coming This Winter

Plans are moving forward with some changes to Clinton’s calendar parking rules during the winter – but slightly different than an initial change proposed a few weeks ago.

Public Works Director Brian Lemke initially proposed calendar parking = or parking on the odd or even house number side of the street based on date – be in effect full time over a winter period instead of based on a snow event and in effect for 24 hours.

The rules are designed to allow city crews to clear the streets of snow.

At Tuesday’s  Committee Of The Whole session the council considered a proposal recommended by the Neighborhood Improvement Committee after reviewing the proposal.  The latest amendment would update the calendar parking rules to be in effect for 72 hours after a snow event.  The council also agreed to have a period of time in the fall and spring to have calendar parking to conduct street sweeping.

Lemke was looking for ways to improve services

Council member Ron Mussman and Mayor Scott Maddasion agreed that some changes are needed to help crews clear the snow.

The council agreed to move the idea forward for a business meeting and could get the proposal approved for this winter.
