January Weather was dry and cold

January 2022 was the 9th driest January in Clinton weather records to 1878 and was also a colder than normal month.

Clinton area official weather observer Jim Blaess says overall temperature was just under 18 degrees (17.7).  He says that’s about 4 degrees below the normal (22.4 degrees).

The highest temperature during the month was 42 degrees that was recorded on the 12th and 18th of January.  The coldest was 9 below zero on the 26th.  Blaess says there were 7 days with zero or below temperatures and the average is 5 days.

Blaess says the precipitation during the month was just under one-half inch (0.47) making the January 2022 the 9th driest in local records to 1878.  The normal precipitation is 1.45 inches.

Included in the precipitation is 8 inches of snow.  Blaess says that is below the normal of 9.4 inches.

For the snow season to date there has been 12. 4 inches of snow from October thru January according to Blaess.  The weather observer says the normal in that period is 19.8 inches of snow.

In February, Blaess says, there is an average of 1.6 inches of precipitation with 7.6 inches of snow.  He also says there is an average of 3 days with zero or below temperatures.  Blaess says the average high on February 1st 32 and low is 15 and those rise to averages of 41 and 23 be February 28th.
