Normal Temps and Less Snow Than Normal In February

February was near normal for the overall temperature and below normal for precipitation.

Clinton Area Weather Observer Jim Blaess reports the overall temperature for February was 25.9 degrees.  He says that compares with the normal average of 26.3 degrees.

The warmest day of the month was the 20th when it was 53.  The coldest day, Blaess says was the 5th when it dropped to zero.  The weather observer says that was the only day in February with zero or below temperatures which was well below normal.  Blaess also pointed out that in 2021 in February there were 14 days with zero or below weather.

Precipitation in the month was .55 of an inch.  Blaess says the average precipitation is 1.63 inches.  Blaess says the month had 2.7 inches of snow and that is about 5 inches below the average snow in February of 7.6 inches.

For the first two months of the year, Blaess says there’s been 1.02 inches of precipitation.  The year-to-date average for the first two months is 3.08 inches of precipitation.

In the snow season of October thru February Blaess says there has been 15.1 inches of snow.  He says that compares to the average of 27.4 inches.

Blaess says in March there is an average of 2.24 inches of precipitation with 3.1 inches of snow.  The average high on March 1st is 41 and low is 24 and by the end of the month the average high is 57 and low is 35.

Blaess did point out that March 2020 was the 12th warmest March in records back to the late 1880’s and March 2021 was the 11th warmest.
