State Unemployment rate drops in January while local rates increase (local data included)

Iowa’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.7 percent in January while local rates increased.

The state rate was down from the revised December rate of 3.9 percent. Iowa Workforce Development says the leisure and hospitality industries added the most jobs in January — up 25-hundred. I-W-D says the industry saw a loss of 800 jobs in December — but has generally trended up steadily since COVID quarantines ended. Most gains were within accommodations and food services, which are up 65-hundred jobs since August. The state unemployment rate one year ago in January was f4.7 percent. The U-S unemployment rate in January increased to four percent.

In January 2022 Labor Force Data the I-W-D shows the Clinton County unemployment rate in January at 5.5  percent.  That’s an increase from 4.7 percent  in December 2021.  The statistics show the workforce dropped by about 800 with the number considered employed dropped by about 30.

The Clinton County unemployment rate in January 2021 was 6.6 percent.

In the city of Clinton he unemployment rate increased from f4.7  percent to 5.5 percent.
