Vietnam Era Helicopter Lands in Clinton

A YL-37 Helicopter which served in the Vietnam War, landed near the Clinton’s AMVETS Post 28 on Monday afternoon, during a planned stop while on its way to Oshkosh, Wis., for an airshow. Dozens of people were on hand to watch the helicopter land and to hear pilots talk about its history. It is the only Marine UH-34D Sikorsky helicopter with documented combat history that survived the battle and returned home and is a flying memorial to all Vietnam veterans. One of a squadron of aircraft called the “Ugly Angels,” which is seen prominently on its tail, the names of 33 Marines in that squadron who died in Vietnam are memorialized on the aircraft.
