Train/Pedestrian Accident – Victim Identification

On October 1, 2023, at approximately 8:52 A.M., the Clinton County Sheriffs Office responded to a report of a train striking a pedestrian at the railroad crossing on 330’^ Ave, approximately 200 yards south of Highway 30. Upon arrival, deputies discovered an adult male had been struck by a Union Pacific train travelling westbound through Clinton County. The adult male struck by the train was pronounced deceased at the scene. The railroad crossing, along with 330^*’ Ave, were both closed for approximately four hours, until the on-scene investigation concluded. The deceased has been identified as Cody Meehan-Sanborn, age 33, of Clinton, Iowa. The case remains under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriffs Office, Iowa State Patrol, Clinton County Medical Examiner’s Office, and the Union Pacific Railroad.
