Felony Credit Card Fraud

On January 30th, 2024 the Clinton Police Department received several reports of credit card fraud in the Clinton Area. Based on the investigation it was quickly learned that an individual had been using a device to obtain credit card information at several businesses.

Based on the investigation, a suspect vehicle was identified.

Following a lengthy investigation, information was obtained that the suspect vehicle and suspect came back to Clinton on 02/12/2024. Officers located and detained a male subject who was operating the vehicle.

Further investigation led to the identification of Sorin Tabac (26 Y/O) who admitted he was in the United States illegally. Officers conducted several search warrants which led to the discovery of skimming devices and learned that Sorin had commited more credit card fraud prior to being detained.

Sorin was charged with the following:

• Credit Card Fraud over $1500 under $10,000 – D Felony
• Credit Card Fraud under $1500 – Aggravated Misdemeanor

The Clinton Police Department and Blackhawk Area Task Force continue to investigate.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
