PPP or PPE LOAN SCAM

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office has been made aware of a new scam occurring
within our community, regarding telephone calls being made or e-mails being sent,
threatening individuals with arrest, for failing to pay a “PPP or PPE LOAN”.
The caller identifies themselves as a Clinton County Sheriff’s Deputy and will even
provide a badge number, all of which are fictitious. The caller will claim you have failed
to attend court on a “PPP or PPE Loan”. The caller will also tell you that you received
paperwork and that there is now a warrant for your arrest. The caller will ask for bond
money to take care of the warrant. Law enforcement agencies be it local, county, state,
or federal, will NOT demand payment over the phone. This type of phone call or e-mail

is a SCAM, and you are encouraged to hang up on the caller and not respond to any e-
mails you may receive.
