Raising money for local wetland conservation

Thomson- Outdoorsmen and their families are encouraged to attend the Sportsman’s Banquet on Saturday the 24th at Majestic Pines in Thomson IL. Organizers have made raising money for local conservation fun. The midwinter Sportsman’s Banquet is hosted by the Mississippi Flyway Waterfowler’s and is aimed at returning the money raised to local wetland conservation. This year’s banquet will have items of interest for deer hunters, duck hunters, and coyote hunters. For the deer hunters an enclosed blind complete with a heater will be raffled. The conservation group encourages hunting families to attend the banquet and sets up games for the kids to play to win items. The Sportsman’s banquet keeps the women in mind and holds a nice ladies raffle. Hunting families will enjoy the banquet as kids will receive decoys and a chance to win hunting guns. What drives the banquet is the members themselves. Many generous sportsmen and members of the conservation group donated extra towards the kids raffles. As many as 8 youth guns will be awarded to young hunters on Saturday night. Also, the very young will get a chance to win BB guns.

Hank Holm of Winslow IL, has volunteered to auction during the event where wildlife art, barn wood art, figurines, decorative decoys and sporting goods will be sold. The live auction will also feature a black lab pup from Barn Ridge Kennel. The ACK lab will make someone a pet and hunter and comes from good bloodlines. The banquet doors open at 5:00 and organizers have lowered price this year to help keep the banquet affordable.
