Central DeWitt Community School District to conduct a Code Blue drill on Monday

Dear Saber families,

We would like to inform you that every school in our district will be conducting a Code Blue drill on Monday, March 30th as part of our ongoing commitment to student and staff safety. This drill is an important step in maintaining our designation as a Heart Safe School through Project ADAM. We can proudly say that CDCSD was the first entire district in the state of Iowa to receive this certification and we are proud to maintain the certification for years to come.

Project ADAM (Automated Defibrillators in Adam’s Memory) is a nationally recognized program that helps schools prepare for and respond to cardiac emergencies. It was created in memory of a high school student who suffered sudden cardiac arrest, with the goal of increasing survival rates through education, planning, and access to life-saving equipment such as AEDs. A Heart Safe School designation means that our school has met specific criteria to ensure preparedness for cardiac emergencies.

The district is partnering closely with Clinton County Emergency Management to conduct a comprehensive drill that will include a live response from local EMS. This collaboration provides valuable, real-world practice for all levels of local emergency management as well as district staff. Community involvement is key to ensuring an emergency response flows smoothly from the moment it occurs through care provided on-site and all the way to hospital arrival.

Please note there will be very little student involvement in the drill activities, and students will not be expected to participate in any medical interventions. Students will hear the drill be called over the intercom and may be transitioned to another classroom as part of our emergency response plan.

Thank you for your understanding of the importance of emergency medical drills. If you have any questions, please contact your student’s school.

Sincerely,
Central DeWitt Administration
